First Date Shake!

Looking for something adventurous to start your morning? Try this delicious date smoothie with toasted nuts. This recipe is based on a Persian drink called majoon and was taken from Loisa Shafia’s book The New Persian Kitchen!


Ingredients:

  • 1 banana, peeled and frozen
  • 8 Medjool pitted dates
  • ½ cupy plain yogurt
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • ¾ cup - 1 cup water (depending on how thick you like)
  • 1 tbsp each:
    • Toasted coconut flakes
    • Toasted chopped almonds
    • Toasted chopped walnuts
    • Toasted chopped pistachios
    • Toasted sesame seeds

* you don’t have to use all of these nuts but the recipe calls for at least a couple!


Instructions:

  1. Cut the banana into slices about 1-inch thick and put in your Domaya.
  2. Add the dates, yogurt, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, ice cubes and water.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Pour into a glass and top with rows of coconut flakes, sesame seeds and your choice of the nuts.
