First Date Shake!
Looking for something adventurous to start your morning? Try this delicious date smoothie with toasted nuts. This recipe is based on a Persian drink called majoon and was taken from Loisa Shafia’s book The New Persian Kitchen!
Ingredients:
- 1 banana, peeled and frozen
- 8 Medjool pitted dates
- ½ cupy plain yogurt
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 2 cups ice cubes
- ¾ cup - 1 cup water (depending on how thick you like)
- 1 tbsp each:
- Toasted coconut flakes
- Toasted chopped almonds
- Toasted chopped walnuts
- Toasted chopped pistachios
- Toasted sesame seeds
* you don’t have to use all of these nuts but the recipe calls for at least a couple!
Instructions:
- Cut the banana into slices about 1-inch thick and put in your Domaya.
- Add the dates, yogurt, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, ice cubes and water.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour into a glass and top with rows of coconut flakes, sesame seeds and your choice of the nuts.
